Configuration for Best Practice (SENDING)

  1. Once logged into Best Practice, click Configuration on the Setup menu.
  2. Click Messaging on the left menu in the Configuration window. Click Add and configure Messaging Provider and click Save. Next click Save in the Configuration window.
  • If messages need to be sent from a central Best Practice server, configure the 'Path for outgoing messages' to the local folder of the server using the full network path and select the 'Use the same path on all computers'.
  • If messages need to be sent from individual computer and not from the central Best Practice server, configure the 'Path for outgoing messages' to the local folder of the computer and select the 'Use the same path on all computers'. Make sure all the computers including the server has the same folder and path created locally. This configuration will cause Best Practice to drop outgoing messages in the local folder of the computer and server.

  • Path for incoming messages:' needs to be configured but need not be the actual path as Best Practice will not use the configuration here if the Results import has been configured.
  • Select the check box 'Use as default messaging provider'.

3. To avoid confusion to the sender (when sending a message, Best Practice will pop-up a window indicating message has been sent to a folder resulting the sender thinking the message has already been sent when ReferralNet has yet to pick up the message), the Show Confirmation on export of HL7 option for each relevant Best Practice user account needs to be disabled. This option is accessible via the Setup -> Preferences menu option.

How messages are generated with Best Practice

Best Practice supports the ability to export both the content and context of a patient letter as a HL7 REF|I12 message file.
The HL7 message is generated from the Best Practice Letter writer module, triggered by the clicking of the Export as HL7 file menu button (refer below). It is this HL7 file that is processed by the ReferralNet agent software, and depending on the desire of the user can be managed by the agent software in two distinctly different ways;

  • Interactively (Requires human interaction with the processing of the HL7 message)
  • Non-Interactively (Does not require human interaction with the processing of the HL7 message)
